Nudie Cohn & Gram Parsons.

You might have guessed from the title what this post is about? No not Glenn Campbell, but the most rock’n'roll of rodeo tailors Mr Nudie Cohn. Nudie, known for his customised rhinestone embroidered suits, is responsible for decking out many country and rock stars in the 50s, 60s and 70s, the most famous of these being Gram Parsons “gilded palace of sin” suit and Elvis Presley’s $10,000 gold lamé suit. Read all about him here.

I can pretty much say that i love every picture of every suit ive seen as they show so much of the wearers character and lifestyle and its lovely to trace them from the big country stars of the 50s like Hank Williams up to the psychedelic embroidery of Grams suit. His is my ultimate favourite and the one that led me to searching for all the others.Notable for its images of pills, poppies, marijuana leaves, flames, naked women and a huge cross, some say it actually predicted Grams unfortunate death at the age of 26. Nudie also designed the suits for the rest of the band The Flying Burrito Brothers on the cover of their album “The Gilded Palace of Sin”.

Nudies other customers included John Lennon,Gene Autrey,Elton John,George Jones,Robert Mitchum,Tony Curtis and good old Glenn Campbell!

If like me you’d like to own your own nudie-alike then make your way over to our ebayshop where we have a Laura for TopShop white embroidered shirt dress for sale, featuring many of the same embroidery seen in the suits such as lightning bolts, pills and horse shoes!

Until next post, enjoy Gram with his Nudie clad band in action! Rusty x
